Glossary
- Term
- Definition
- CMZ
- Constraint Management Zone — a defined area of the electricity network where a specific constraint has been identified. Flexibility services are procured within these zones to manage network constraints.
- DTD
- Demand Turn Down — a flexibility service direction where demand customers reduce their electricity consumption to help manage network constraints.
- DTU
- Demand Turn Up — a flexibility service direction where demand customers increase their electricity consumption, typically to absorb excess generation on the network.
- FSP
- Flexible Service Provider — an organisation or entity registered on the Market Gateway that offers flexibility services by adjusting generation or demand in response to network needs.
- FY
- Financial Year — the annual accounting period used for reporting, running from 1 April to 31 March (e.g. FY 2024/25).
- GTD
- Generation Turn Down — a flexibility service direction where generators reduce their output to help manage network constraints such as thermal or voltage limits.
- GTU
- Generation Turn Up — a flexibility service direction where generators increase their output to support the network during periods of high demand or low supply.
- HV
- High Voltage — refers to the higher-voltage tiers of the distribution network, typically 11 kV and above, where larger-scale flexibility services are procured.
- LV
- Low Voltage — refers to the lower-voltage tier of the distribution network, typically 400 V, where smaller-scale and domestic flexibility services operate.
- MW
- Megawatt — a unit of electrical power equal to one million watts. Used to express the capacity of flexible assets and services.
- MWh
- Megawatt hour — a unit of energy equal to one megawatt of power sustained for one hour. Used to quantify the volume of flexibility procured or dispatched.
- YTD
- Year to date — the period from the start of the current financial year up to the present date, used to show cumulative figures for the year so far.
